"We thought we were giving, we received"

Testimonials from the foster families

On this page, we hear from these big-hearted families who each year allow more than 220 children with a heart condition to benefit from the best care by having surgery in France.

The children cared for by Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaques come from underprivileged countries. They have a heart defect and cannot be operated on in their own country due to lack of technical and financial resources. Laos, Burma, Congo, Benin, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Burundi, Madagascar, Haiti, Nicaragua… these children come from all over the world. The host families and the Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque teams are united by very strong ties which helps them on a daily basis as they accompany the children towards a new life.

Report from the Freyd family who welcomed the charming little Angel, aged 4 years old, who was operated on for a heart defect at the CHRU in Strasbourg.

Her first smile after the operation, then her laughter, her joy of life, her appetite regained, what a wonderful reward! It's a new life that begins with a brand new heart. We discovered the generosity around us. We thought we were giving, we received a lot! »

THE FOSTERING JOURNEY

Step 1: Identification of sick children

The referring doctors or the volunteer doctors who accompany the Association during the missions diagnose the pathology of the children seen.

STEP 2: ORGANIZATION OF THE TRIP to FRANCE

The child is taken care of from his country by the association Aviation Sans Frontières. A volunteer from ASF accompanies the child until his arrival at the Paris airports.

Step 3: CARE AND SURGICAL PHASE

The child is welcomed at the airport by his or her foster family. After the medical examinations, the child is hospitalized and operated on in one of the 9 hospitals in France.

STEP 4: STAY WITH FOSTER FAMILIES

After the operation, the child convalesces with his or her foster family. A new life begins.

STEP 5: return to their families after they are cured.

After a few weeks in his or her host family, the child is reunited with his or her family and will be monitored for life by the Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque teams.

Bertine, a Nantes family story

"Fostering Bertine was our first experience as a foster family. We took in a shy little girl who rapidly came into herself. She was a smiley, mischievous girl, full of life and very intelligent for her age. Cakes, bananas, petits suisses cheese, we had to keep them all well in stock! We had a great time with her, she was always involved when it came to doing "silly things"! Such a little mischief-maker!  »

The Lehugeur family took care of Bertine from Burkina Faso for 6 weeks. She had her operation at CHRU in Nantes in June 2018.

20 children saved at the Big Christmas Sale!

When we saw the result we couldn't believe our eyes, but it's real... 20 children will be able to be cared for thanks to the event, a record!
Throughout the year 2021 we have been celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Association and the 3700 children cared for since its creation, so we couldn't have wished for a better way to close it in beauty.

"À Coeur Joie", the project of a family from Bordeaux to save Lucas

At the beginning of 2021, Clémence, Arnaud and their three children - Mathilde, Louis and Amaia - embarked on the great adventure of welcoming a child with a heart condition. But even if it means taking in a little heart, why not finance his operation as well? That's how they opened a fundraising page with the aim of raising €12,000.
